We are so excited to announce we have made another big step in planning for our wedding day. On Friday, August 8th, we hired both our photographers and our videographers. We think it is one of the most important parts of any wedding day, and we are relieved to have hired them.
We’ve been told that the day itself goes by quickly and because we are doing our thing we’ll likely miss all kinds of fun happenings and adorable moments. Well, the best way to capture what’s going on is to hire a good team of photographers, and that’s just what we’ve done. Thanks to our wedding coordinator Nadia Ly we had a handful of recommendations to get us started. We’d also done your standard Google search for “Portland Wedding Photographers”, and turned up some very good candidates. Another source that worked for us was theknot.com. When it was all said and done, we had a list of 15 to 20 vendor websites to preview portfolios, and then narrow down to a smaller list to inquire about their availability, review pricing, and then finally meet them face-to-face.
Of the ones inquired, two were already booked for our day, and a few of them just couldn’t get it together to schedule a time within our availability. The process took a little over two weeks to meet with the remaining options we liked most. It actually became easier to decide as we met each one, and along the way we learned some of the things we didn’t want. This helped us to customize questions for them that would give us the best options in the end.
Once all the meetings were over, we knew pretty quickly who “the one” was. It was one of Nadia’s recommendations, they were professional, had a unique business model, and offered all that we wanted for our day. The best part was meeting the photographer, Seppi from Powers Photography. Yay! He rocked, and we are totally excited to work with him.
Funny, we actually spent tons of time finding the right photographer, but our meeting with the video team was a very different story. We’d found one company that ruled them all solely based on their portfolio of videos online. It just so happened we’d decided on them before we ever even met. Once we were sitting across the table, it was certain that we just had to have Moving Pictures for our video team! See for yourself here: movingpictureweddings.com.
Thanks to Joanna Herrick and Robert Krawic for this generous gift, and thanks to Cassie, our Maid of Honor, for her note-taking and interrogations in so many of the photographer meetings.
